'1/2 blind farm cat now house cat needs a name': After healing, settling in, and winning over the household, this former colony kitty is ready for a fresh start and the purrfect new name to match

About three weeks ago, this pawrent decided to bring home an injured cat from a farm colony they care for and it's been a heartwarming transition. After his vet appointment and first day in his new home, he adjusted quickly and confidently. He's even started napping in the open and trying out soft spots like blankets and a catnip mat, though he still seems to prefer the floor for now.

A follow-up vet visit brought all good news: his leg is healing nicely, and his tests came back clear, meaning he's healthy enough to meet the rest of the household. He's calm with the big dog, only a little curious about the birds, and wonderfully patient as the youngest cat, Toyo, figures out her feelings about him. She hisses, he just blinks, unbothered.

He's come such a long way in just a few weeks from cautious colony cat to confident housemate. With this new chapter ahead, he deserves a new name to match his fresh start. Whether he stays Cloud or becomes Crow or Boo, he's already home.

    The day before I took him home one of our youngest colony members, Baby, was hit up by the road. Honestly it solidified what I already knew I wanted to do and the next day I took him to his appointment and then his new home.

    We've had no accidents, all good litter box usage, and I didn't need to use a bigger crate as he took to my office pretty easily. I can pet him more than before, although I take it slow because he doesn't always seem to like it,

    and he sleeps out in the open. I caught him sleeping on my chair and he finally slept on a blanket and catnip map I had laying out for awhile. He's really iffy about softer things though and usually sleeps on the floor.

    It'll take them a bit, she hisses and he's just like "oh hi" but I give it another week or two and she'll warm up. He already doesn't mind our dog, who is almost 90lbs, and has a little interest in our birds (yikes lol)

    Anyway, we have "Cloud" as a temp name but I kinda like "Crow" and "Boo." Any other ideas for names? I'm going to include some before and after photos of my boy. (In the last photo, he is closest to the fridge, Toyo is closest to the camera)

  • Those ears are definitely giving Batman! All he needs now is a tiny cape, some dramatic entrance music, and maybe a sidekick named Robin (or Meowbin).

    Living-Dimension-... Shade...bc he is a mostly black cat with some orange/brown "shading" and bc he is partially blind and can only see 'shades' :)

  • Shade is always such a good name for a black kitty. Simple, sleek, and full of mystery. It fits that quiet, watchful vibe perfectly, like they’re made of midnight and moonlight.

  • Harold (or Herald!) is such a distinguished name. Sounds like he should be wearing a tiny bow tie and announcing royal decrees. Very classy, very proper, and absolutely purrfessional.
